Functional design

It produces document that contains a detailed description of individual elements of the created system. It shows how the final version of the proposed system will work, how an interaction with system users is initiated and shapes a service layout.

Why should we create functional designs?
A mockup is created in response to the provided customer briefing. It is based entirely on customer’s expectations on the functionality of the developed system. It also marks a key stage of the implementation process, as it precedes graphics and software development. It provides a visual layout of webpage elements together with a detailed description of their functionalities.

The most important elements of a functional design are:

• layouts of the main subpages and their description,
• a layout and description of content blocks with their functionalities,
• a layout and description of the mechanisms available to users and administrators,
• information architecture (layout of the content on the site).

Elements not mapped to the mockup include: color, style and substantive content, which were included in the project.

Who is it for?

We recommend a functional design especially for complex applications, intranets, portals and social networking sites, e-shops and sometimes even websites.

Both the customer and the development team receive a functional design:

• Customer: receives explicit picture of the system in a visual form (location of individual elements) and functional form (modules and their functionality)
• Development team: receives a document that contains detailed guidelines for initiating work (graphic, software)
